I am proud to say that I was born and raised in the wonderful community of Fort Frances.  Like most angst-filled youth, there was a point in my teens when I yearned to get away from what I knew and try something new. In true 18-year-old fashion, I was independent, smarter and more resourceful than anyone else. Or so my youthful ignorance led me to believe.

While temperature is the key signature of changing seasons for much of Canada, here in the Northwest, it is safe to say that we don’t refer to April showers and May flowers as “spring,” nor the brilliant and fiery colours of October as “fall.” Don’t be silly. Naturally, we refer to these times of year in such a way that’s indicative of the special place they hold in our hearts. That is, to say, fishing and hunting openers.
